USVI Chess Association
Empowering Chess Players Young and Old
Happy New Year!
Watch the video to see some of our activities during 2022. THANK YOU to everyone who sponsored a club, organized a tournament, made a charitable donation, and instructed our VI children. You made and continue to make the difference!
The USVICA Annual Meeting will be held via Zoom on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 2:00PM. Current members will receive an email reminder. Dues must be paid by February 1st in order to vote at the AGM. If you are not yet a member, this would be a perfect time to join! There is strength in numbers and our goal to build ONE vibrant democratic Virgin Islands chess community that offers opportunities for all Virgin Islanders, especially our young people. Membership is open to not only chess players but also to chess enthusiasts and chess supporters. That means parents and spouses and any Virgin Islander with a vested interest in expanding opportunities and enrichment activities in our homeland. Membership for young people under 18 is free. Native Virgin Islanders or people born of native Virgin Islanders are granted lifetime membership. Be proactive! Please review our constitution and bylaws and consider running for office.
Scholastic chess clubs are now set up at St. Croix Central High School, The St. Croix Ed Complex, Good Hope Country Day School, and at both campuses of UVI. St. Thomas has, as always, many scholastic programs in their schools headed and coached by Sinclair Wilkinson and Brandon Rhymer. Watch the video (scroll down until you reach the video) of STX students in action!
